Matar al Diablo is a graphic novel set in the historical context of the early independence of Chile in the south-central area, where we see the story of a young mestiza girl and her Mapuche father who live on the hacienda of their boss, who is a tyrant. The latter acts under the impunity of his absolute power, carrying out despicable acts against his workers, cleansing his image with Catholicism and deceiving his own conscience with the gospel to rest assured. Raguel, our protagonist, experiencing the atrocities of her employer throughout her life, decides to take justice into her own hands.
This comic seeks to reflect on the latifundia culture rooted in the depths of Chilean identity, through a story that groups and reinterprets the large number of injustices experienced throughout the history of this young country. The magical realism that accompanies this story rescues the superstition of the Chilean countryside, giving us a small consolation by explaining both the traumatic events and the coincidences of divine justice.
