Is it possible to bring a lost identity from shadow to light? When half of our blood belongs to a country we didn’t grow up in, do the memories and gestures of that culture still define us? How can we reconcile a double self?

“Radici Erranti” is a visual project which explores the topic of biracial identity through the medium of photography. It is the visual documentation of an imaginary journey in search of a forgotten identity. Born in northern Italy from Italian-Japanese parents but without ever being exposed to Japanese culture, growing up, I felt the need to give voice to my Japanese self.

Through the re-enactment of gestures and symbols typical of Japanese culture, and through the recovery of past memories, I attempt to reconcile the dual nature of my roots. Wandering through symbolic locations from my past and present life, the project touches on themes such as the passage of time, the transient nature of life, and the ambivalence of the human condition.
