Marta Cartu
Predoctoral researcher, teaching experimental comics
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona (UB) and have completed the Master’s in Artistic Practices and Social Action at the University of Bordeaux, the Master’s in Visual Arts and Education at UB, and the Teacher Training Master’s at UNIR. I am currently a predoctoral researcher in the field of comics and education at the Càtedra de Recerca i Experimentació en Còmic Finestres–Elisava (CREC).
I began my career as a comics author creating fanzines such as “Baby Kimchi” and “Triatlón”, and later published the comic “Hola Siri”. I have also carried out expanded comics projects, such as the installation “Hifa” within the exhibition “Constelación Gráfica” (CCCB), and “Espacios de Seguridad” at Sala d’Art Jove. I have participated in other exhibitions such as “Cómic, sueños e historia” (CaixaForum).
“For me, comics are a place: a space to play and experiment with the relationships between form and format, and to explore the fissures of language in order to imagine new narratives. It is about placing the body at the center —unfolding a device, moving through a space— and also about building a place of encounter.”
