Marta Borrell, Penguin Random House

Specialist in Book Cover Design

Trained at Elisava —Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design and a Master’s in Corporate Identity and Packaging— and at New York University —Master’s in Multimedia. My life changed in 1994 when I discovered the inner workings of a publishing house at Penguin. Since then, I have worked in the book industry. As the Group’s Creative Director, I oversee the creation and implementation of the corporate brand and the imprints that make up the group. I lead the creative team, collections, imprints, and editorial design. Committed to excellence, I combine strategy and attention to detail to ensure clear and consistent editions.

For me, it is a privilege to work in a sector I am passionate about. Bringing together design and books, collaborating with top-level professionals, and staying in close contact with authors make my day-to-day work a dream job. At Penguin, I value the content we create and the human quality of the team. It is a company that fosters creativity and innovation and that, moreover, is flexible, understands the balance between personal and professional life, and helps us grow professionally. We constantly take on new projects, learning from the people around us and evolving as a company and as a team.

“Over the years I’ve learned that leading a creative team is not about controlling timelines or deliveries, but about supporting each person so they can work from their best self. My responsibility is to create a safe, healthy, and stimulating environment where talent can emerge without fear. That is where the ideas that truly matter are born.”
