Bruno Caldas Vianna, CITM, UPC
I hold a PhD in Artificial Intelligence and Visual Arts from the University of the Arts in Helsinki, Finland, and a Master’s in Interactive Telecommunications from New York University. I began in audiovisual work with award-winning shorts and documentaries, then transitioned to augmented reality and interactive narrative formats. I’ve developed exhibition projects during residencies in London, Quebec, and Barcelona. Currently, I research creative workflows and aesthetic biases in AI models, exploring how technology reshapes artistic processes and their cultural implications.
I am a full professor at the Center for Image and Multimedia Technology at the Technical University of Barcelona (UPC), where I teach creative programming, expanded audiovisual media, emerging technologies, and artificial intelligence. My research focuses on the aesthetics of artificial intelligence and its cultural effects.
“When we use AI without critical thinking, we submit to a mass aesthetic standardization and an unsustainable ecological impact. The best way to open the black box of AI is to understand the models to appropriate them with responsibility and technical mastery.”
